The Problem with Tours

So far this year artists that frequent the Off Center Radio airwaves have been releasing tour dates. First, it was Isaiah Rashad, then J. Cole, Chance the Rapper, and now Kendrick. What a time to be alive, right? Not really. These artists have put out some great projects this year and last year. How is that bad? Glad you asked. When an artist puts out a hot single, they attract bandwagon-ers; new temporary fans. These temporary fans jump on the concert tickets, only to take up space at the concert and don't know half of the artist's discography.

Last September, I attended Chance's Magnificent Coloring Day at U.S. Cellular Field on Chicago's South side. The function was packeted. When Chance performed that night, everyone knew the words to every song from the Coloring Book, but the crowd got quiet when "Pushaman" came on. You barely heard anyone say "Ten damn days..." I was appalled. Now, I can't sit here and act like I know all the lyrics to Chance's 10 Day project, but here's what I can say: If you plan to buy some concert tickets, PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH. Take a stroll through their music catalog, it doesn't take that long. But why? It makes the experience that much more live for everyone else. Nothing is more of a buzzkill than a dead crowd during your favorite classic from your favorite artist.. which is exactly what I had to endure Chance's entire set.
